Application of Water-jet Cutter for Threat Response
A water jet cutter is an industrial tool that is used for cutting a wide variety of materials by the application of very high-pressure jet of water. In various industries, including mining and aerospace, waterjet cutting is often enabled for fabrication of machine parts by using the manufacturing method of cutting, shaping, and reaming. By utilizing the water jet characteristics, Threat response especially in times of massive earthquake could prove itself to be quite lucrative. Earthquake provides no certain warnings before its occurring. As a result, the response task in the aftermath is of paramount importance. The most challenging part is to safely remove concrete parts of fallen infrastructures and aid the entrapped individuals inside to reduce casualties. While cranes and hammering the way in is considered to be the most typical response, use of laser beams, acetylene torches etc also can increase the danger with the effectiveness. To overcome the challenging criteria of certain dangers, availability, application and cost effectiveness water-jet can provide to be a useful solution as this industrial grade mechanism can almost cut through any materials even titanium. Inclusion of this mechanism with the fire trucks that carry water, we can most effectively use it to deal with threats that involve rescuing people from entrapped concrete.
Water jet Process Description:
The process begins at a large electric driven water pump, which pumps oil at 2750 psi into a heavy duty intensifier assembly.
Inside the intensifier that the pressure is increased from domestic supply pressure (50-60 psi) up to 55,000 psi. This increase in pressure is achieved due to the greater surface area of the hydraulic piston (20 times the surface area of the water piston) to amplify water pressure to 20 times the pressure of the water.
The ultrahigh pressure water is then fed via stainless steel pressure piping into a cutting head on a profile cutting table.
At the cutting head, the stream of high pressure water is focused through a ruby, sapphire, or diamond orifice which focuses the water into a fine "needle."
The ultrahigh pressure water is then fired through a mixing chamber where abrasive garnet sand is drawn into the water stream.
The abrasive and water mixture then exits the cutting head through a focusing tube at speeds up to Mach 2, thus creating a highly efficient and powerful cutting tool.
4 pumps are set around the selected area, so used water can be pumped to the truck again and there is a filter which will remove concrete or stones or other materials mixed with water. And the water will be used again.
Benefits of Abrasive Jet Cutting:
No heat affected zone.
Low contact force of cutting stream.
No distortion and warping.
Burr-free.
Can cut any material and thickness.
Near net shape cutting eliminates secondary operations.
Can achieve high accuracy’s of up to +/- 0.001.
Material thickness of 0.002 to 12” can be cut.

Application:
Natural Disaster:
After an incident the fire trucks will arrive to response the threat and save lives. Main problem is huge concrete pieces that hinders the process entrapping humans or anything within. In this case, the fire truck will have a medium power device installed that will be operated by remote using the large water reservoir it is mounted on. There will be a suction pipe ready to remove any excess water that can create obstacles. As simple pump, especially solar pump will serve the purpose.
Construction:
Construction companies often demolish old buildings to make new ones. A large number of huge concrete brick parts has to be carried that causes a lot of trouble including transportation cost, carry permit, safety issues, authorized personnel shortage etc. Then they are taken to junkyard and again turned into pieces for other purposes including as building materials. All of these cause a lot of money and time and pollute surrounding area.
Similar to the fire trucks, a dedicated vehicle with this water jet cutter will be innovated. This will turn any large concrete into smaller parts, making it easier to carry out or reuse it for other purposes.
Defense:
As the enemy lines are forever heavily guarded, one of the basic and oldest tactics is to make a tunnel to breach enemy perimeter. This is the best way to ensure safety of the soldiers in infantry line. But the underground is not always in favor, and blowing up isn’t really a silent process. But this device can easily solve that, because it is less noisy than any other destructive forces on hand. And it could also be carried safely without suspicion as water in itself isn’t really harmful nor it has any explosive qualities.
